Staff Picks: Favorite Hostels

The staff here at the Polynesian Hostel wants to tell you about some of their favorite hostels they’ve stayed at around the world.  Here’s a short list coming from our current staff.

Kamejikan – Kamakura, Japan

From Jesse – If you’re in Japan, I recommend the Kamejikan. It’s a traditional Japanese guesthouse. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. And it’s only minutes away from the beach.

The Green Tortoise – San Francisco, California

From Annina – The Green Tortoise seemed to think of everything. Well cared for, very clean, nothing was falling apart. They were generous with what they had to offer, as a guest you felt taken care of. Organized, kind staff, and good vibe.

Banana Bungalow – Wailuku, Hawaii

From Jared – My favorite hostel other than the Polynesian Hostel is the Banana Bungalow located on Maui. They have a guaranteed free tour everyday and free keg party every Friday. The hostel is great for young party animals. Plus you can see the entire island without a car. Highly recommend!

Adelaide Central YHA – Adelaide, Australia

From Ariel – The thing I liked most about the Adelaide is the idea of getting the guests connected with each other. They do this by having an activity every day or so in which one of the staff members would chose to host that day. For example, every Sunday they had a ping pong tournament. Every Wednesday they had a BBQ for everyone. These activities gave opportunities for the guests to get connected with other guests as well as the staff. It created a more secure homey feeling.

Chicago Getaway Hostel – Chicago, Illinois

From Joe – Out of all the hostels I’ve stayed at, I really liked the Chicago Getaway the best. It’s in the Lincoln Park area of Chicago and the train station is close by that will take you anywhere in the city. The hostel has a huge kitchen that’s open 24 hours. They had free computer stations and netbooks to use if you didn’t have your own laptop. They had different common rooms, like a music room with a piano, a gameroom to play foosball, a TV room just to hang out and watch some sports, and even a library if you just wanted to read and/or get some work done. They thought of everything.
